Arkansas APEX Accelerator Success Story: Avila Trucking LLC

Brian Avila, owner of Avila Trucking LLC, established the Conway-based freight transportation company in 2023. Avila Trucking LLC provides comprehensive trucking and hauling services of materials and equipment for a wide range of industries across the state of Arkansas.

Avila had been working fervently to obtain additional business and applicable certifications to propel the growth of his business. This involved applying for a Department of Transportation (DoT), Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) certification, a certification for small businesses owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals.

Avila encountered an unexpected challenge related to the System for Award Management, (SAM) registration. This registration was required prior to completing his desired DBE certification application. Avila turned to the Arkansas APEX Accelerator for assistance. Procurement Counselor Kenneth Griffin guided him through the SAM registration process.

“I am thankful, as I had previously experienced errors while validating the business entity in SAM,” Avila said.

In addition to providing technical support, Griffin also served as a liaison with the Arkansas DOT DBE Certification Team, helping Avila Trucking LLC obtain updates and timelines of the certification application’s completion.

“I’m grateful to have had a ‘bridge’ that helped me complete the process,” Avila said.

Avila Trucking LLC recently began subcontracting. Avila attributes the guidance he received from the Arkansas APEX Accelerator. Specifically, advisement he received during the “Navigating the Government Procurement Process” training in July, taught by Griffin. He used the feedback to evaluate opportunities across Arkansas for subcontracting. Avila notes that he looks forward to obtaining more business and will rely on the assistance of the Arkansas APEX Accelerator when necessary.
