The Emerald Isle enjoys a unique climate, receiving Gulf Stream weather patterns which keep the island quite mild. Rainfall is abundant and the rich glacial soils contribute 67% of the land being used for agriculture and 10% being used for forestry. Almost 80% of the agriculture area is devoted to pasture, hay and grass silage; 11% to rough silage; and 10% to crop production (wheat, oats, barley, potatoes). Cattle and sheep are the main livestock produced in Ireland. Key markets for Irish exports are the UK, Germany, France, Netherlands, Russia and China. Dairy products comprise most of its exports with beef, processed foods and beverages (beer and whiskey) following closely. Ireland suffered economic decline throughout the 1900s, but the Celtic Tiger since the 1990s gave the country new life, especially with its expertise in the technology markets.

There’s plenty of “craic” (good times) to be discovered in the charming pubs with live music. The pubs, found on every street corner, are a mainstay of Irish social life, and you will find all ages conversing about the village news. October is a fabulous time to visit with its mild weather.

Depart Little Rock for your international flight (with connection). Dinner and breakfast will be served on your flight.

Arrive in Dublin in the morning. Clear customs and meet the local driver-guide who will be with the group the entire stay. Embark on a guided city tour of Dublin, to learn more about this cosmopolitan capital of Ireland, famous for its friendly people and elegant Georgian architecture. The city was founded by Vikings in the 8th Century and has since been an important part of Europe’s maritime history. The Normans remained on the island more than 800 years and it is evident in most of the castle architecture. Visit Trinity College, O’Connell Street, Phoenix Park and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The cathedral stands on the oldest Christian site in Dublin. The rest of the afternoon is free to explore Dublin city with the option to visit and tour the world-famous Guinness Brewery (not included in cost). Afternoon at your leisure to spend in Dublin. Welcome dinner. Overnight Hotel Rui The Gresham 4* or similar downtown Dublin. Meals: Breakfast on plane and dinner.

Breakfast at the hotel. Opportunity to meet with the IDA (Industrial Development Authority) to discuss their objectives and responsibilities. The IDA is a state body set up to encourage direct foreign investment into Ireland, for example Google, Dell, and Amazon. Meeting with the US commercial service Ireland. The US Commercial service network of trade professionals represent unparallel outreach. Their international experts provide market intelligence and business connections. They advocate on behalf of U.S. firms for easier market entry. Lunch on your own.

Afternoon visit to the Old Jameson Distillery in Dublin for a tour and tasting. No visit to Ireland is complete without a tour and tasting of Irish Whiskey, the national drink and one of the country's biggest exports. All visitors receive a signature Jameson drink, and volunteers are selected to partake in a whiskey tasting . Dinner on your own. Meals: Breakfast

Travel to the west of Ireland. See The Burren (Gaelic for rocky land) and visit the dramatic 650-foot Cliffs of Moher. The cliffs offer one of Ireland’s most spectacular views. On a clear day, the Aran Islands are visible in Galway Bay, as are the valleys and hills of Connemara. These fantastic cliffs have been the subject of many Irish songs. Afternoon visit to Beef Cattle Farm. We will visit with the farmer and learn about his breed of cattle and his challenges in this area. Continue to Galway “City of Tribes”. You will love this very walkable city on the west coast of Ireland with its pedestrian area with many shops and fun pubs. Overnight at Galway Park House Hotel Galway 4* hotel. Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Today enjoy a tour of Connemara, known for its wild terrain, soft colors, and Irish culture. Stop at a farm for a working sheepdog demonstration. Continue to Kylemore Abbey. Nestled at the base of Duchruach Mountain on the northern shore of Lough Pollacappul, in the heart of the Connemara Mountains, Kylemore Abbey is regarded as one of Ireland's most romantic buildings. Tour the abbey to learn about its history and enjoy the beautiful Victorian Walled Garden. Afternoon visit to Connemara Abalone aquaculture farm. Abalone are highly priced shellfish delicacies, especially now that they have become scarce in most countries. Return to Galway. Dinner on your own and time to enjoy Galway. Overnight in Galway. Meals: Breakfast

Depart Galway through Budnoran to Sligo through Ballyshannon, along the wild Atlantic Ocean via Ballyboffey and Donegal to Derry. For entering Northern Ireland, we need a visa (new since 2025). Scenic stops along the way. Visit to farm that has sheep, suckler cows and grows cereal and potatoes. In the afternoon, embark on a guided walking tour of the walled city of Derry with a local guide. Derry, also known as Londonderry, is an ancient walled city that played a role in many turning points in Northern Irish history. It is located on a causeway. It is the only remaining Irish city that has complete city walls which were built during the period 1613-1618 as defenses for early 17th century settlers from England and Scotland. The history of Derry city goes back to the 6th century. Learn about its history and political (and religious) struggles of Northern Ireland. Dinner and overnight in Derry. Best Western Plus White Horse Derry or similar four-star hotel. Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Breakfast at hotel. Morning visit with the Northern Ireland Development office to learn about their initiatives. Depart along the Antrim Coast to the Giant’s Causeway, the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Northern Ireland. Flanked by the wild North Atlantic Ocean on one side and a landscape of dramatic cliffs on the other, for centuries the Giant’s Causeway has inspired artists, stirred scientific debate and captured the imagination of all who see it. Science, of course, holds the answers to most of these questions but in the days before scientists there were storytellers. Storytellers have their own explanation for this captivating stretch of the coast, and many stories endure to the present day. The most famous legend associated with the Giant’s Causeway is that of Irish giant Finn McCool. It was imagined that the causeway is the remains of the bridge that Finn built linking Ireland to Scotland. The landscape became so imbued with the spirit of this legend that it gave rise to the name – the Giant’s Causeway. Continue to Belfast. Belfast started out as a small hamlet with fertile land along the mouth of the Lagan. Soon, marauders and pirates realized the lough was deep and the shores were safe from the North Atlantic storms. The perfect haven for repairing sea ravaged ships. From these early stages the industrious locals developed a boat-building trade. Enjoy the cobblestoned streets and flair of Edwardian architecture. Dinner and overnight at Europa Hotel Belfast City Centre or similar 4-star hotel. Meals: Breakfast, dinner

After an Irish breakfast, visit a dairy farm with 550 head of Tailormaid Holstein, a state-of-the-art dairy and arable acreage with silage. This zero-grazing dairy farm near Belfast milks about 550 pedigree Holsteins with 550 head of young stock, including replacement Heifers and young calves. The herd is currently averaging 8500 liters with 3.2% protein and 3.9% butterfat. The farm also plants 10 ha forage maize and another 10ha for cereal production. The farmer has invested heavily in the housing and dairy infrastructure in recent years, installing a new rotary dairy 4 years ago. Lunch on your own. Tour Belfast with the opportunity to visit Queen’s College Botanical Gardens with its Victorian greenhouse and breathtaking collection of roses. The route covers breathtaking architecture and feats of engineering, including the Queen’s University, the giant H&W cranes, Titanic’s birthplace and Cathedral and Queen’s Quarter. The tour ends with a visit to the Titanic located in the revived wharf district. Belfast was a thriving shipbuilding and manufacturing port in the late 1800s and early 1900s. View the piers where the Titanic was built to get an idea of the extreme size of the ocean liner. Visit the Titanic Experience. Dinner on your own. Overnight Belfast. Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Journey to Dublin for about two and a half hours. En route we visit Hillsborough Castle and Gardens. The Castle is best known for being the official residence of the Royal Family in Northern Ireland and is also the residence of the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. Essentially a mid-18th century Georgian mansion house, it was built by Wills Hill, after whose family Hillsborough is named. He was himself a Secretary of State in George III’s government, with responsibility for North America. The first international visitor to the Castle was Benjamin Franklin in 1770. The Castle and Gardens were sold in 1925 to the British government and post-partition it became the home of the governors of Northern Ireland and a royal residence. Many of the political negotiations relating to the Northern Ireland peace process have taken place at the Castle and in 2005, HM The Queen met with President Mary McAleese – the first time the heads of states of the two islands had met one another on Irish soil.

Visit to a large solar farm that produces electricity for the region. Continue to Dublin.
