Craighead County Agriculture

Craighead County has over 350,000 acres of farmland that produces corn, wheat, soybeans, cotton, rice, grain sorghum, and peanuts. The Craighead County Extension office provides unbiased, research-based information and recommendations to producers and homeowners free of charge. Services provided are soil testing, forage and water analysis, plant and insect identification and disease diagnosis. Most services are free.

Agriculture programs include crop production meetings, variety testing, crop verification, DD50 program, irrigation scheduling,  Flag the Technology, and Pesticide Applicator Trainings.

Craighead County Family & Consumer Sciences

Arkansas Extension - Family and Consumer Sciences helps improve the quality of life for Craighead County residents by offering community programs in food and nutrition, health and aging, personal finance, marriage, parenting, and family life. Grant funding from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is utilized to provide free nutrition education to low resource families in Craighead County.

Craighead County EFNEP Program

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle depends on important factors such as physical activity and healthy eating. The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) reaches over 200 limited-resource families annually in Craighead County. Participants who graduate make healthier food choices and better manage their food resources, reducing food insecurity.

Craighead County Master Gardener Program

The Master Gardener volunteer program provides an opportunity for individuals interested in gardening to learn and serve their communities.  In Craighead County, Master Gardeners volunteer in 12 public garden projects, including the Arkansas State University Display Garden on the campus of Arkansas State University and the Butterfly and Native Plant gardens at the Crowley's Ridge Nature Center. Craighead County Master Gardeners contributed 11,450 volunteer hours worth $269,762 to beautify Craighead County.

Craighead County 4-H Youth Development Program

Mastery, Independence, Belonging and Life Skills are the major core in the Craighead County 4-H Youth Program. 4-H is a national youth organization that focuses on building a well rounded, confident, independent and courteous youth. 4-H has a fit for everyone. With over 200 different project areas, a student can find virtually anything to fit their ever growing and sometimes ever changing interests. Craighead County has multiple clubs designed to fit every genre and interest of our counties youth. "Go Green ... Join 4-H!"
