Mississippi County 4-H Community Club Sends off Christmas Cards for Troops
OSCEOLA, Ark. –
Over the Christmas Holiday, the Mississippi County 4-H Community Club’s box of handmade
Christmas cards made its journey and landed in the surprised hands of the members
of the 552 AMXS Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest
City, OK. There, Staff Sergeant Landon Berry distributed them to members of his Red
Dragon Maintenance Unit and also sent some over to the White Lightning Aircraft Maintenance
Unit, where they were received with smiles all around.
The 4-H Community Club chooses community service projects throughout the year and
for Christmas wanted to do something extra special for someone. The club heard about
Christie Young from Osceola. She has a son, Staff Sergeant Landon Berry, who is stationed
at Tinker AFB in OK. He has not been home for Christmas in 8 years.
The club decided they wanted to send him and his squadron some Christmas Cheer by
making Christmas cards. Mrs. Young told the club that she sends him a Christmas package
every year, so the club met twice before Christmas and got busy making enough cards
for every member of his squadron.
This year the Community Clubs Christmas cards-all 60 of them-were included as a surprise in that Christmas package! While we know that getting to come home for Christmas is the best gift a troop member and their family can get, the club hoped that knowing someone from back home cares about them and sent them something special, helped make their Christmas away from home a little brighter and less difficult. 4-H members love our veterans and troops and thank them for their service to this country!
