Poteau watershed workshop rescheduled for April 23 at in Fort Smith
LITTLE ROCK – After being postponed because of icy conditions, the Arkansas Watershed Stewards workshop in the Poteau watershed has been rescheduled for April 23 at the Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center
Residents and business owners in Polk, Scott and Sebastian counties are invited to learn more about water quality at the daylong workshop hosted by the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service.
“Our presenters will focus on the basic science of a watershed and on how residents can start a local watershed group to help preserve the water quality,” said Kristin Higgins of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture Public Policy Center. “The program includes basic concepts, such as what is a watershed and what activities have the potential to harm water quality.”
At workshop’s end, participants will be considered an Arkansas Watershed Steward – a person who has specific knowledge about local water concerns and how local actions can affect water quality.
The workshop is open to the public, although reserving a spot by April 21 is encouraged. The program will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. For more information, contact your county agent or call 501-671-2160 to RSVP. The Nature Center is at 8300 Wells Lake Road in Fort Smith.
The Arkansas Watershed Stewards program is funded by the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission.
