Get engaged in a local water quality discussion

Community members still have time to RSVP for a forum on water quality in the Strawberry River area.

LITTLE ROCK -- Community members still have time to RSVP for a forum on water quality in the Strawberry River area.

The University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service is offering an opportunity to discuss issues affecting the Strawberry River and other rivers in the surrounding area on Thursday, Dec. 11, at the Ozarka College Student Center, Room 104. The meeting, which runs 9 a.m.-noon, is of interest to people living and working in Fulton, Izard, Lawrence and Sharp counties.

The event is part of a series of meetings being held in 10 priority watersheds around the state. The Cooperative Extension Service will be hosting a forum for residents to talk about what they can do to improve or protect water quality in their watershed.

“This is an opportunity for you to meet others in your community who are interested in water quality, to discuss local concerns and how you can work together to address those concerns,” said Amanda Philyaw Perez, program associate.

The meeting is open to those who live, work or own property in the watershed. People involved in local governments, utility providers, road departments, conservation district personnel are also encouraged to attend.

Future forums will take place in each of these watersheds: Upper Saline, Illinois River, Beaver Reservoir, Lake Conway-Point Remove, L'Anguille River, Lower Ouachita-Smackover and Bayou Bartholomew.
