Military kids find fun, friendship and adventure with 4-H Military Youth Camps

LITTLE ROCK -- Arkansas’ military youth from all branches of service will have camping opportunities, thanks to funding from the Department of Defense, 4-H Military Partnership Programs, The Arkansas 4-H Foundation, and the Operation: Military Kids program.

“The funding is provides residential and day camps for youth and families statewide,” said Maureen Rose, Arkansas 4-H Military Liaison. “In addition, the Arkansas National Guard will offer Minuteman Camp in July for 10- and 11-year-olds.”

Military youth camps strive to meet the unique needs of military youth, who often experience challenges during separation from loved ones. The camps have educational programs designed to develop life skills that support resilience in youth. This will be the sixth year the military youth camps are offered in Arkansas.

This year’s camps include:

Metro Camp; an urban exploration camp in Central Arkansas for children age 9 – 12, scheduled for April 11 - 13. Campers stay at the C.A. Vines Arkansas 4-H Center. Registration ends March 28. Funded by the Department of Defense. Registration closes April 1.
Visual and Performing Arts Camp; an opportunity for teens to tell their military stories through movies, performing arts, written arts and a radio performance. This camp is June 16 – 10 at the Arkansas 4-H Center for youth age 13 – 18. Registration ends May 19. Funded by the Department of Defense.
North by Northwest Camp for teens, scheduled June 29 – July 1. Campers age 13 – 18 will travel by coach to the Mt. Sequoyah Conference Center and spend two days enjoying educational adventures such as the War Eagle Cavern, team-building activities, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, and a University of Arkansas campus visit. Registration closes June 2.
4-H / Military Techno Robotics Camp; for children age 10 – 12, this camp will be at the Arkansas 4-H Center from August 4 – 6. Campers will experience engineering challenges and construct and program robots for team competitions. Registration ends July 7. Funded by the Arkansas 4-H Foundation.
Arkansas Military Family Camp: July 25 – 27 at the Arkansas 4-H Center, this camp will serve military families and children age 5 – 18. Activities will promote communication and leadership, effective families, healthy lifestyles and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) skills. Outdoor and indoor fun and recreation. Registration ends June 25. Funded by the Military 4-H Partnership Program through Kansas State University.
Minuteman Youth Camp, sponsored by the Arkansas National Guard, will provide a series of adventures for youth age 10 and 11; from July 20 – 25 at Camp Robinson in North Little Rock.
Day camps (one day) for 5 – 8 year olds children can be scheduled in your community on demand. If you know of 10 to 20 military children of this age, contact Maureen Rose to set a date.
