Arkansas Outdoor School has a camp for almost everyone

FERNDALE, Ark. – Love science and technology? Adventure sports and wilderness skills? How about art or crime scene investigation techniques? For all those topics and more there’s a summer day camp for you this year at the Arkansas Outdoor School.

 The Arkansas Outdoor School Day camps are for youth ages 7-15 years of age. AOS is part of the Arkansas 4-H program, a research-based youth development initiative that emphasizes learning by doing. The camps run from June 15 to Aug. 7. Full camp days run from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. with other camp day-length variants for busy parents.  The camp day runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with extended hours available for busy parents.

 For parents, the camps are unique in the tiered fee structure offered to make the camps affordable to a wide range of families. Camp prices range from $190 to $346.

Enrollment is on a first-come, first-serve basis with limited space.                                                              

“The Arkansas Outdoor School wants to offer experiences that youth can’t get anywhere else,” said Mike Simmons, 4-H Center program facilitator for the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service. “Our lineup this year is a combination of some of the most popular sessions we’ve had over the last few years plus some new ones.”

This year’s sessions include: CSI camp, Wilderness Skills, Adventure Sports, Fun n’ Fitness, Science in Motion, Arts in Action, Creativity Camp, Duct Tape Camp and the Greatest Hits Camp, combining favorite activities voted on by campers all summer long.

And of course, the camps will feature perennial favorite activities such as swimming, canoeing, archery, rock climbing and hiking.
