Backyard poultry workshops scheduled for March

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.  –   A series of workshops is being scheduled for backyard poultry flock owners who want to learn more about raising their birds, including protecting them from avian flu.

“Since avian flu was confirmed in a Boone County flock, we’ve gotten questions from people who have backyard poultry,” said Dustan Clark, an extension veterinarian for the Division of Agriculture and associate director of the Center of Excellence for Poultry Science. “We hope these workshops will provide a chance to brush up on skills and ask questions about caring for their flocks.”

The meeting schedule below is as of Friday, March 13. Additional dates and locations will be announced:

    • Tuesday, March 17, 6 p.m., Marshall (Searcy County) -- Petit Jean Electric Cooperative Conference Room. For more info, contact the Searcy County Extension Office at 870-448-3981.
    • Thursday, March 19, 6 p.m. – Harrison (Boone County) at the Little Theater, North Arkansas College-South Campus. For more info and to RSVP, contact the Boone County Extension Office at 870-741-6168.
    • Saturday, March 21, 9 a.m.-noon – Searcy (White County) – White County Fair Grounds Educational building. For information, contact the White County Extension Office at 501-268-5394.
    • Monday, March 30, 6 p.m. – Summit (Marion County) – Marion County Fairgrounds, Community Building. For information, contact the Marion County Extension Office at 870-449-6349.
    • Tuesday, March 31, 6 p.m. – (Benton County) Bentonville at the Benton County Extension Office. Call the county extension office to RSVP at 479-271-1060.
