Online auction provides access to stallion services

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A three-week online stallion service auction featuring top-flight performance horses began Thursday, Jan. 14. Proceeds from the second annual event will benefit the Arkansas 4-H horse program and the University of Arkansas horse judging team in the equine program. 

Certain Potential

“Last year we hoped to raise $15,000 and we actually raised $17,400. We hope to do a little better each year,” said Mark Russell, assistant professor-equine in the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture animal science department. Funds raised will support youth scholarships, internships, camps, workshops, travel cost, equipment, and registration fees.   

Bidding on the stallions’ stud services will run from noon Jan. 14 to noon Feb. 4. Bidders may view information about each horse and arrange to make bids at http://www.arkansasstallionauction.com. 

The 32 stallions available for bidding comprises cutting/cow horses western pleasure horses, reining horses, speed/racing horses and halter horses. Several of them were offered for bid last year. 

“These are outstanding performance horses that are among the best in the world,” Russell said. “We obtained them by talking to people we know in several states about how they could help our program.” Russell credited Louis Wray of Russellville, who has long worked with performance horses, with introducing several owners to the university’s horse program and the auction.
