Division of Agriculture pesticide expert named as American Association of Pesticide Safety fellow

LITTLE ROCK — The American Association of Pesticide Safety Educators recently named Ples Spradley, extension pesticide assessment specialist for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, as a fellow of the association.
The designation of Fellow is the highest recognition bestowed by the organization and highlights his significant impacts in pesticide safety education, resulting in the availability of safe food, clean water, environmental protection and human health while enhancing the agricultural community of the United States as well as Arkansas.
Spradley was recognized for his extensive record of service to the association. He was elected as president of the association in 2007, and served on the association’s executive committee for six years. He was twice elected to the association’s national board of directors, representing the southern region, and has served as chair or member on numerous AAPSE committees. Additionally, Spradley has served on the editorial board for the Journal of Pesticide Safety Education.
Spradley is the eleventh person to be named a fellow in the 25-year history of AAPSE.
“I am very lucky to have been associated with an organization with such a great group of professional, hardworking, and public-spirited members,” Spradley said. “It is a significant honor to even be considered for this recognition because the individuals previously named as AAPSE Fellows are the people I most respect and admire in my profession. I hope I can continue, in any capacity, to serve this outstanding organization that has defined my career for the past 25 years.”
