ROHWER, Ark. — A University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture field day Thursday (July 20) will demonstrate research findings and new technology for corn and grain sorghum, soybeans, rice and cotton production.

Rohwer Field Day

Registration for the division’s Rohwer Research Station field day begins at 7:30 a.m. Admission is free and includes lunch served by Hoots Barbecue.

Visitors can choose two of four tours that depart from the station’s office at 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.

Each tour will feature Division of Agriculture research and extension programs for four crop areas:

  • The corn and grain sorghum tour will cover whorl feeding caterpillar, long-term nutrient management, and high yield practices;
  • The soybean tour will cover target spot, weed control issues and options, and redbanded stinkbugs;
  • Participants on the rice tour will see new technology in weed control, fertility management, and variety selection and production practices; and
  • The cotton tour will demonstrate cereal rye and weed control, fertility management, and the division’s cotton breeding and variety testing programs.

Certified Crop Advisors credit is available for crop consultants who sign up at registration.

The Rohwer Research Station is located 15 miles northeast of McGehee on Arkansas Highway 1 in Desha County. It is a unit of the Southeast Research and Extension Center at Monticello.

The station’s mission is to help solve problems related to agricultural production in southeast Arkansas. Research programs at the station are under the supervision of agricultural scientists at Fayetteville, Stuttgart and Monticello.
