Dicamba tops Aug. 8 field day at NE Research & Extension Center

KEISER, Ark. – University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture weed scientists will be tackling one of the most heated issues in Arkansas agriculture – dicamba – at the Aug. 8 field day at the Northeast Research and Extension Center.
“With dicamba driving such interest and passion in Arkansas, the Mid-South and elsewhere in the U.S., this may be one of the most important field days we hold this year,” said Mark Cochran, vice president-agriculture for the University of Arkansas System. “Our weed scientists are keen to help growers understand the issues underlying the controversy over weed management tools of this chemistry.”
In addition to the weed management aspects, Jarrod Hardke, extension rice agronomist for the Division of Agriculture, will be covering alternative irrigation management in rice – discussing alternate wetting and drying and row rice.
The field day opens at 8 a.m. with sign-in, with field tours run 8:30-11 a.m.
The agenda:
- Understanding primary and secondary movement of dicamba – Jason Norsworthy, professor, weed scientist with the U of A System Division of Agriculture
- Understanding differences between dicamba formulations – Tom Barber, professor - extension weed scientist, U of A System Division of Agriculture
- Weed control programs in future triple stack (dicamba, Liberty, Roundup) soybeans – Bob Scott, professor, extension weed scientist, U of A System Division of Agriculture
- Alternative irrigation management in rice (alternate wetting and drying, row rice) – Jarrod Hardke, associate professor, extension rice agronomist, U of A System Division of Agriculture.

11:30 a.m. – Lunch provided.
