LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas crop producers planning to use Engenia and Enlist Duo for the 2017 growing season must fulfill certain requirements to use the products in Xtend or Enlist cropping systems, said Tom Barber, extension weed scientist for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture.
“There’s been a lot of confusion leading up to this growing season about herbicides in Arkansas,” he said. “It’s really important to give some clarity for growers as they get ready to plant.”
Engenia and Enlist Duo are restricted-use pesticides, or RUPs, in Arkansas. For growers to purchase either, they must have a current Arkansas Pesticide Applicators license.
“If you have this license, the retailer may sell you the product,” Barber said. “Having this license is nothing new – it has always been required for the purchase of restricted use pesticides in Arkansas.”
When getting ready to use Engenia on Xtend crops or Enlist Duo on Enlist crops in the field, the person operating the sprayer must take a specific online training. This online training is now available here: http://bit.ly/AR-Engenia-Enlist.
“You may not apply these herbicides until you have completed this online training module,” he said.
Other trainings, such as the On Target Application Academy offered by BASF, and the spray schools offered by the Cooperative Extension Service are good supplemental learning opportunities, but alone, will not fulfill the requirements needed to use and apply Engenia to Xtend crops.”
The online training module is hosted and developed by Extension Application Technologist Jason Davis and Extension Pesticide Assessment Specialist Ples Spradley as a result of the requirements passed by the Arkansas State Plant Board.
Once the online training is complete, a quick reference card, “Arkansas Application Requirements for Engenia Herbicide,” may be downloaded from https://www.uaex.uada.edu/publications/pdf/MP542.pdf.
