May 22-23 conference to help ag professionals, academics understand latest Farm Bill

UNDATED – The nation’s Extension Risk Management Education Centers are hosting a workshop May 22-23 to help agriculture industry professionals and academics get up to speed on the latest Farm Bill, so they can help their clients.

“This is a great opportunity for university and ag pros to gain insights on the 2018 Farm Bill’s program details and help advise their clients on opportunities and critical decisions for the coming growing season,” said Ron Rainey, professor-agricultural economics and director of the Southern Risk Management Education Center. 

The conference will run from 8 a.m. on May 22 until noon on May 23 at the Holiday Inn KCI and adjoining KCI Expo Center near the airport in Kansas City, Missouri. The conference will cover multiple titles and components of the 2018 Farm Bill with a focus on producer decisions and management implications. The agenda will also include discussion of the development and implementation of the farm bill as well as a broader look at the farm outlook and related policy issues affecting producers. 

The risk management education centers around the country, in collaboration with the Farm Foundation, National Crop Insurance Services, and others are providing the primary financial support to deliver the conference. 

Individual meeting registration is $100 per person to partially cover facility and meal costs, including breakfast each day as well as a lunch and evening reception on the first day. To support the public land grant mission to deliver farm bill education, university and other public sector participants will be able to register at a discounted rate of $50 per person.
