Little Rock Mayor to speak at Breakthrough Solutions Conference in June

LITTLE ROCK – Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr. will speak at the 2019 Breakthrough Solutions Conference, scheduled for June 26 at the Four Points by Sheraton Little Rock Midtown in Little Rock.
With the theme “Creating Connected Communities in the Emerging 21st Century Economy,”
the conference will focus on new opportunities and strategies that communities and regions can use to become vibrant and sustainable through connecting within — and with each other.
Scott will speak about ways to cultivate unity through community-led action teams.
“In Community and Economic Development, community buy-in is integral to long-term sustainability and support,” said Mark Peterson, Professor of Community and Economic Development with the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture. “Mayor Scott will talk about his own experience creating community led subcommittees to address major issues facing Little Rock and demonstrate how rural communities can do the same.”
“Long term development and sustainability cannot occur without a unified community leading from within,” he said.
“When community members are involved in the development process, they are more likely to take ownership and see projects to completion,” Peterson said. “We are delighted to host Mayor Frank Scott and learn new ways to empower and connect communities through teams formed to address particular issues.”
The conference is scheduled for June 26 at the Four Points by Sheraton Little Rock Midtown, at 925 S. University Ave. in Little Rock, with a pre-conference workshop scheduled for June 25. The pre-conference workshop will be a hands-on workshop to assist a pilot community – the Arkansas Regional Coalition of the Ouachitas — to become fully connected in the emerging 21st century economy.
