FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Turfgrass identification, establishment and pest management are among the topics for the Turfgrass Short Course Jan. 7-8, 2020, at the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service State Office in Little Rock.
Turfgrass experts will present the latest research on best management practices for golf courses, sports turf and home lawns, said Matt Bertucci, a research scientist in the department of crop, soil, and environmental sciences.
“This course will have information relevant for seasoned professionals looking to brush up on their fundamentals, for new professionals getting into turfgrass management or for enthusiasts who are interested in maintaining high-quality lawns and other turf sites,” Bertucci said.
The two-day short course is being co-hosted by the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and Oklahoma State University and is an intensive course covering a variety of topics related to turfgrass establishment and success.
Attendees will also be able to renew their pesticide applicator licenses by registering and signing in for both days.
The short course is an opportunity for attendees to interact directly with scientists from the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and Oklahoma State University who are experts in their field, Bertucci said.
“The diversity of our intellectual contributors is what makes it really special,” Bertucci said.
Attendees will have a chance to learn about insect pest and weed management from Division of Agriculture scientists John Hopkins, professor of entomology, and John Boyd, visiting assistant professor of crop, soil and environmental sciences, Bertucci said.
Each day will start at 8 a.m. and should be finished by 5 p.m. Lunch and snacks will be provided both days.
