FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — National Agricultural Law Center Senior Staff Attorney Elizabeth Rumley was honored at the American Agricultural Law Association’s 44th Annual Educational Symposium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

NALC Senior Staff Attorney Elizabeth Rumley received the 2023 Excellence in Agricultural Law Award for academia from the American Agricultural Law Association.

On Nov. 11, the association recognized Rumley for her outstanding contributions to the legal profession and agricultural community with its 2023 Excellence in Agricultural Law Award for academia.

“It is an honor to receive this recognition of my work from the American Agricultural Law Association,” Rumley said. “AALA is a wonderful organization for anyone who is interested in the intersection of agriculture and law. It connects agricultural law and policy professionals, providing great resources and insight into the field, along with excellent networking opportunities.”

Rumley has been an attorney at the NALC since 2007. Her work focuses on legal issues in animal agriculture, and she frequently lectures on those issues and others to audiences nationwide. Further, she teaches courses in Environmental Law and Legal Issues in Animal Agriculture through the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, & Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas. In conjunction with that work, Rumley is an adjunct faculty member in the University of Arkansas’ Center of Excellence for Poultry Science, Animal Science Department and the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Department. Additionally, she is on the advisory board of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture’s Tyson Center for Food Animal Wellbeing.

Rumley has a B.A. from Michigan State University. She earned her J.D. cum laude from The University of Toledo College of Law, and an L.L.M in agricultural and food law from the University of Arkansas School of Law. She is licensed to practice law in Michigan, Ohio and Oklahoma.

“The NALC is very proud of Elizabeth and the exceptional work that she does,” NALC Director Harrison Pittman said. “I can’t think of a more fitting recipient of this recognition.”
