On Friday, Nov. 21, LeadAR Class 21 spent the day in northwest Arkansas (NWA) exploring key organizations and sharpening leadership skills across agriculture, community development, and communication.

We began with a tour of Simmons Prepared Foods in Benton County, gaining a firsthand look at the scale and precision behind one of the region’s major poultry operations. From safety practices to production flow, the visit highlighted the complexity of feeding communities nationwide.

At The Jones Center, David Long of Cromwell Architects Engineers (LeadAR Class 20) shared insights into the center’s design evolution and its role as a community anchor. A chicken‑themed lunch—fitting for NWA—kept us fueled before shifting into service.

LeadAR member Amber Overholser then led a hands‑on holiday card volunteer project, reminding us how small acts of kindness strengthen community bonds. Next, at the Market Center of the Ozarks, Marissa Dull walked us through the facility’s mission to support farmers, food entrepreneurs, and regional food systems.

We closed with media training from Nick Kordsmeir, who helped us refine how we communicate our stories and represent our communities with confidence.

The day showcased the innovation, collaboration, and community spirit that define northwest Arkansas—and reinforced the impact LeadAR leaders can make across the state.
