Headshot Harold Clark, Jr. Now we shine the spotlight on another member of LeadAR Class 20—Harold Clark, Jr. He is a battalion fire chief at Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services. We asked him to respond to the following questions.

Why did you apply to the LeadAR program? What motivated you?

My motivation to apply was a result of the fire chief encouraging me to research the program. After my research I was extremely interested in the program and wanted to apply in hopes of being selected.

What leadership quality do you admire most in others? Why?

Humility is a quality in leaders that I really admire. When you encounter someone in a leadership position who's humble, you're not only more inclined to receive their knowledge, and expertise, it inspires you to mimic that behavior for others to emulate.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you? Why is this surprising?

I like country music. This would be surprising to my friends due to R&B being the music I listen to the most.

What are your top three ingredients necessary for success?

Education, Preparation, Opportunity

Describe your personal leadership style.

My leadership style is based on accountability, transparency, and trust. Holding myself accountable in all aspects is a cornerstone of my personal leadership style. I believe in setting the example that I want others to follow.

What is something you hope to gain from your LeadAR experience?

I'm sincerely looking forward to constructive dialogue that fosters positive change in communities across the state of Arkansas. I'm hoping to gain lifelong friendships and develop relationships with like-minded individuals who believe in leaving things better than they found them.

How can effective leadership help move the state of Arkansas forward?

Effective leadership creates a culture of innovative thinkers that are unified to accomplish the task at hand. Working in an environment that encourages leaders to work together towards a shared goal or vision is the key to moving the state of Arkansas forward.

LeadAR is a program designed to help Arkansans broaden their understanding of issues and opportunities facing our state and strengthen their ability to make a difference.
